Day 1: Kigali
Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be met outside the airport arrivals section and then transferred to your hotel for accommodation and overnight.
Day 2: Kigali – Volcanoes National Park
After breakfast you depart on a City Tour of Kigali. You will have lunch and then later depart Kigali and drive to Ruhengeri a 2.5 hrs drive, arriving in the early evening at the Volcanoes National Park. Dinner and overnight is at Sabyinyo Silverback lodge or Mountain Gorilla View lodge.
Day 3: Volcanoes National Park (Golden Monkey Trekking)
You will have an early breakfast at your lodge. At 0630hrs you are transferred to the Volcanoes National Park HQs. After a briefing, you depart for the golden monkey tracking, later returning to the lodge in time for lunch. In the afternoon you can visit the Bulera and Ruhondo lakes. Dinner and overnight is at the Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge Or Mountain Gorilla View Lodge.
Day 4: Volcanoes National Park (Gorilla Trek) – Lake Kivu
You will have an early breakfast at lodge. At 0620 hrs you are transferred to the Volcanoes National Park HQs for your first day of Gorilla trekking. At 0700 hrs there’s a briefing by your trackers, then drive to the trail head for the start of your amazing Gorilla Tracking adventure (Porters may be hired for the trek to carry your backpack and gear. Guests are advised to utilize this service).
Your trek again starts in the cultivated foothills of the Virunga’s offering stirring views in all directions. When it enters the national park, trekkers will be immersed in the mysterious intimacy of the rainforest, alive with the colorful bird calls, chattering golden monkeys, littered with fresh spoor of the mountains’ elusive buffalo and elephant. Through gaps in the canopy, the magnificent peaks are glimpsed, among the highest in Africa yet easily accessible, beckon an ascent.
Weaving through overhanging vines, moss-covered hagenia trees and giant lobelias that thrive in the tropical climate, our experienced trackers, who have spent their entire lives in or close to this forest, soon bring us up close with one of the Gorilla Families.
Upon sighting the gorillas, you will stay with them for a magical hour as they go about their daily life, feeding, playing, resting; raising their young. Coming face to face with a giant silverback must truly be one of the greatest wildlife experiences on earth!
After the trek, you will rejoin your drive/ guide for the transfer back to your lodge for lunch.
Later in the afternoon you depart for Lake Kivu, where you will arrive in time for dinner and overnight at Lake Kivu Serena.
Day 5: Lake Kivu – Kibuye – Nyungwe National Park
After breakfast at lodge, you proceed to Kibuye arriving in time for lunch. After lunch, you will stop at the Home St. Jean, a Genocide Memorial Church, and then continue to Nyungwe Forest National Park to arrive in the late afternoon for dinner and overnight at Nyungwe Forest Lodge – HB.
Day 6: Nyungwe Forest National Park (Chimpanzee Trek)
You start early a morning forest nature walk in the park, to track Chimpanzees in the Cyamudongo forest. This is the time to watch the forest’s birdlife too. Return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon,
You can take a walk to the Tea Plantation. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight at Nyungwe Forest Lodge.
Day 7: Nyungwe Forest National Park – Kigali – Depart
You depart after breakfast and drive to Huye with a visit to the workshop of the Tin Smith of Huye. Lunch will be at Ibis Hotel and then a visit to the National Museum in Huye. On the way to Kigali, you can stop for a visit to the Nyanza King’s Palace. You will arrive in Kigali in the late afternoon and you will be transferred to Kigali international airport for your scheduled departure flight. Safari comes to an end.
